Lower Blepharoplasty Miracle Mile Cosmetic Center

A lower blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) removes excess skin to rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes. Sagging skin and excess tissue around the eyes can contribute to a tired, puffy look. As you age and the collagen in your skin declines, it is common to experience fine lines and wrinkles in these areas.

At Miracle Mile Cosmetic Center, our team has helped many patients enhance their complexions with customizable treatments that can help you achieve results for several years if you take good care of your skin. Our innovative procedures are well-known for their ability to enhance patients’ complexions for long-lasting results.

About Lower Blepharoplasty

As you age, your skin’s collagen levels decline, leading to wrinkles, fine lines, and laxity that can affect your perceived age. Droopy skin around the eyes is one of the first signs of facial aging (1) and it can make you look tired even when you are well-rested. The fat in your face can also begin to descend with age, creating a puffy appearance. With a blepharoplasty, we can reduce puffy under-eye bags and wrinkly skin for a smoother, more awake appearance.

In 2023, surgeons performed more than 143,000 facial enhancement procedures and more than 120,000 eyelid surgeries to help patients reduce signs of facial aging. (2) With customizable lower blepharoplasties, you can enjoy looking younger with fewer wrinkles. Our team of experienced surgeons can also reposition the fat pads beneath your eyes (transconjunctival fat transpositioning) for a smoother appearance to help you look more refreshed.

Upper Blepharoplasty

If you experience changes to your upper eyelids, such as droopy skin that affects your field of vision, we can remove it with a thin, easy-to-conceal incision along the upper eyelid. If you would like to make changes to both the upper and lower eyelids, we can perform both procedures at once during a quad blepharoplasty.

Benefits

There are several benefits to a lower blepharoplasty, including:

  • Smoother skin: You can enjoy fewer fine lines and wrinkles for a more youthful-looking, smoother complexion.
  • A more awake appearance: Puffy, droopy skin beneath the eyes can make you appear tired or older than you are. (3)
  • Lasting results: You can enjoy lasting results if you take good care of your skin and prevent sun exposure that could result in more fine lines or signs of facial aging. The facial skin will continue to be affected by the natural processes of aging over time.
  • Fewer wrinkles and fine lines: Removing excess wrinkly skin contributes to a smoother appearance.
  • Increased self-esteem: Many patients feel better about their appearance after the procedure, with refreshed eyes and a more wakeful look.

Candidates

Candidates for a lower blepharoplasty want to improve the appearance of their eyes and reduce signs of aging. If you feel as though you look tired and want to refresh your look, a lower blepharoplasty can provide impactful results.

If you are a nonsmoker and you are in overall good health, without any conditions that could affect your ability to undergo the procedure, you are likely a good candidate for lower blepharoplasty.

If you smoke, you must be willing to stop temporarily during your recovery. It is important that you also have realistic expectations about what you can achieve with the procedure.

Consultation

During your consultation, we will ask about your aesthetic goals and examine your skin to determine the best treatment plan for your needs. With a personalized treatment plan, we can reposition the fat beneath your eyes and remove excess tissue for a smoother appearance.

You must come prepared to discuss your medical history, medications, and lifestyle in depth so that our team can outline the best treatment plan for your goals. If you have additional aesthetic goals, we can also discuss other procedures to help you achieve them.

Preparation

To prepare for an eyelid lift, you must avoid excessive sun exposure, which can damage your skin. You should also refrain from drinking alcohol for one week before and after your procedure. Ask someone you trust to drive you home and assist you afterward so you can focus on healing.

We recommend that you prepare your meals, run errands, and create a comfortable place in your home to recover. You should also run necessary errands and schedule time off work for your recovery.

Procedure

On the day of your procedure, we recommend that you arrive in comfortable clothing without any makeup, skincare products, or accessories. Anesthesia will be administered for your comfort. Your surgeon will make a thin incision inside the lower lid or below the lash line to reposition bulging fat pads and remove excess wrinkly skin. The most effective incision placement for you will depend on your situation and your surgeon’s recommendations.
